Home Remodeling – Update Your Home to Make a Good Home Great

This home remodel is an example of how updates can turn a good home into a great one, without having to add to the square footage. The rooms now flow from one to another, and the home is more modern with a classic sense of cottage style.

Kitchen Before After

The layout of this kitchen was not altered in the home remodel, nor was it expanded.

The primary change to the kitchen involves adding an arch to help separate the room from the dining area. Looking into the kitchen, the crisp white trim stands out from the rich, red walls of the dining area.

New top-of-the-line appliances and cabinetry are added to the kitchen, including small cabinets that fill in the previously unused space below the ceiling. The center island is cosmetically updated with a butcher-block countertop and beadboard panels. The barstools are also updated, and the tile flooring is replaced with wood.

Family Room

In the family room, the remodeling choices make the most of the home’s current space. The ceiling lights are replaced with recessed lighting, and the ceiling is updated to a smooth finish.

A built-in unit is added to house the electronics, and the fireplace mantle is expanded and painted white.

Dining Room

In the dining area of this home remodel, carpet is replaced with wood flooring, and the openings between rooms are updated to include arches and columns.

A more casual table is added, which obstructs less of the view of the water.

In addition, the light fixture is replaced, the ceiling finish is smoothed, and the color scheme is updated.

Home Gym

Subtle changes are reflected in the new home gym area of the remodeled home.

As in the rest of the home, the ceiling is refinished, and the colors are updated. The wood trim is replaced with wider, white trim. The railing is modernized, and the carpet is replaced with wood flooring.

Game Area

This is perhaps the most visually dramatic change in this remodeled home. Custom built-in shelving provides areas for keepsakes, books, and show pieces, as well as hidden storage area for games, movies, and other items.

An arch is added, as are beams on the ceiling. The color scheme from the rest of the home is repeated here, as is the wood flooring.
