Painting with Eco-Friendly Paints

Today "green" is one of the watch words in home renovation. Homeowners are looking for building materials made from recycled materials, energy-efficient equipment, and paints and varnishes that contribute to good indoor air quality (IAQ). If you're painting your house and you want to be eco-friendly, you're in luck; one of the easiest ways to go green is with paint.

Adding A Mudroom

Very few older homes were built with a mudroom in mind, but they can be very useful. Mudrooms provide a handy transition from the outside to the indoors and they are great for storage of coats, shoes, umbrellas, and other items that leave the house frequently. If you're planning a remodeling project, see if you can add a mudroom into the plan. Ideally the mudroom should be adjacent to the kitchen; some homeowners also combine mudrooms with laundry rooms to make it that much easier to shed dirty clothing.

Moving Your Laundry Room Upstairs

It used to be that all washers and dryers lived in the basement, but that meant schlepping baskets of laundry up and down two flights of stairs. However, the bedrooms on the second floor are the source of most of the laundry, so it only makes sense for most people to have their laundry room upstairs. No wonder it's a growing trend. Here are some considerations about moving your laundry room upstairs.
